Started by Thomas Tate on New York Road, Leeds in 1922, Tate of Leeds was the first company to sell a Ford car in the north of England and from then grew as the first Ford dealership in Yorkshire, holding the Ford badge until 1998.

With the rapid expansion of the road network and subsequent increase in cars across the country Tate of Leeds was a city centre landmark for over 50 years. The company then moved south to Balm Road, Hunslet in 1977 to a large purpose-built showroom and service centre, where it began to carry out paint and body repairs for all manufacturers. The company also acted as agents for Hyundai and Daihatsu before finally moving away from vehicle sales in 1999 to concentrate and specialise in the accident repair industry where we are today.

THE BUSINESS TODAY

The current company, Tate Accident Repair Centre, was formed in January 2004 and is now run by Richard Tate, great-grandson of the original proprietor. The business employs 30 members of staff and repairs 2,600 vehicles every year.

Today, we take on and carry out service and accident repair work for all kinds of vehicle owners, be they individual private drivers or large fleet customers running thousands of cars and commercial vehicles on a national scale.

Unlike many of the large chains, we offer a customer-tailored personal service from experienced staff, many of whom are into their second and third decade at the company, so you can expect to see the same faces again and again!

All of our estimators and technicians are trained to NVQ Level 3 at the very least, and all of the work that we carry out is guaranteed for 3 years.

We look forward to the next chapter in our 92 year history and to welcoming many more customers in the future, and with Richard’s car- obsessed 9 and 4 year old sons, there’s every chance the business will carry on for a 5th generation of Yorkshire motorists!

Tate Accident Repair Centre is fully BS10125 accredited and an approved member of the NBRA (The National Body Repair Association), the only trade association for car body repairers in the UK. Both require a strict Code of Practice to be followed to achieve approval and accreditation and Tate Accident Repair Centre has met those stringent requirements and complies with those strict codes of conduct.

We are very proud of meeting this standard which is designed to give you, the consumer, protection should the business not fulfil your expectations or be able to resolve any issues that you may have. This ultimately gives you the peace of mind that we will treat you and your vehicle with the utmost respect and carry out work to the very highest standards, whilst being safe in the knowledge that it is all backed by the BS10125 and the NBRA.
